Most models do not make much money modelling. Most photographers do not make much money. Many are not doing it primarily for money. I think that they are doing it for "fun and profit".
I guess you have to really like doing it to continue doing it. Maybe the models like the attention and glamour. For the photographers, it is the obvious :-) plus ???.
In the last 2+ years that I started doing, I have talked to more than 100+ photographers. Only one told me that he sells his photos as "fine art". And even he was not using it as his main income.
I have met many beautiful models at "group photo shoots" in the Bay Area. These are held by many protographers. There are many different pay and work styles at the various events. Depending on the model's style, attitude and event attendance, there is wide variance of money to be made.
I know for sure that some models have made very little. I have been surprised that sometimes I guess they do not get their carfare in "bookings".
