Zivity

This is a web site that I found thru the meetup service.

When I read about their site, I was interested because (supposedly) they pay money to models and (somewhat less) to photographers based on their ratings a popularity.

After I read about the site, it seemed strange that the models must approved all published photos. Since I usually get a signed release for photos I take (and usually pay) this seems in conflict with that approach.

I attended one of their meetups and in addition to free sushi and beer, I got some good info about the service.

One of the photogs there sent me a trial subscription.

I looked thru the site and there were some hott models and good photos. Earlier I thought they only wanted models with lots of piercings and tatoos. I even saw some models that I have shot in other venues.

So I endeavored to find some models who would shoot for "TFZ" (=trade-for-Zivity). Then maybe the model could hope to make some real money with the pictures. In some ways I figured out that the regular model shoot (where the model is paid at the end of the shoot and the "releasee" gets to decide what happens then is really "money up front" and the Zivity way is "money based on quality".

Of course, just like ModelMayhem. the sessions that "show more" get more votes (views in MM-land).

But alas I could not find any models who were interested to shoot with me for TFZ.

So I let my trial subscription lapse.

Modelling cheat-sheet

(of course, these are only my opinions...)

Most models do not make much money modelling. Most photographers do not make much money. Many are not doing it primarily for money. I think that they are doing it for "fun and profit".

I guess you have to really like doing it to continue doing it. Maybe the models like the attention and glamour. For the photographers, it is the obvious :-) plus ???.

In the last 2+ years that I started doing, I have talked to more than 100+ photographers. Only one told me that he sells his photos as "fine art". And even he was not using it as his main income.

I have met many beautiful models at "group photo shoots" in the Bay Area. These are held by many protographers. There are many different pay and work styles at the various events. Depending on the model's style, attitude and event attendance, there is wide variance of money to be made.

I know for sure that some models have made very little. I have been surprised that sometimes I guess they do not get their carfare in "bookings".

Here are the group shoots that I have attended or know about.
